If it's so good, why isn't everyone doing it?
Fair question. I've watched great loan officers stay in the wrong pond for years, and it's almost never because they're bad at what they do. It's one of these.
1. A relationship they don't want to break
A manager who took a chance on them. A team they came up with. A company that's been good to them. I respect that. Loyalty is a good thing.
Just make sure the loyalty runs both ways. When was the last time the comp plan changed in your favor?
2. It sounds too good to be true
Same loans. Bigger paychecks. Better life. Yeah, I know how that sounds. I thought the same thing.
That's why I don't ask anybody to believe me. I ask them to measure it.
3. They don't know it exists
Nobody inside a retail branch gets paid to show you the other side of the table. So most loan officers never see it. They just assume the way they're paid is the way everybody's paid.
4. The one nobody says out loud: pride and ego
Nobody wants to find out they've been leaving money on the table for years. It stings. So it's easier not to look.
But here's the thing. Not looking doesn't change the math. It just means you're the only one who doesn't know it.
Two things keep most people from making more: pride and ego. Is that worth it?
You don't have to decide anything today. Just see your numbers. Run them here. If the math doesn't move for you, stay put with a clear conscience. If it does, you'll want to know.
